Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Short version: BCut processes your videos entirely on your device. We never upload your footage, transcripts, or personal files to any server.
1. Introduction
BCut ("we", "our", or "us") is a local-first desktop application for macOS that automatically detects and removes silences, filler words, and repeated takes from video recordings. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect in connection with the BCut website (bcut.app) and the application itself, and how we use it.
2. Information We Collect
We collect minimal, anonymous data from the BCut website and, if you opt in, from the application:
- Page analytics (via Vercel Insights): page views, referrer, country-level location, browser type, and device type. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you individually.
- Event analytics & session replay (via PostHog): page views, button clicks, scroll depth, and anonymized session recordings (mouse movements, clicks). All form inputs are masked and never recorded. On the post-purchase page, license key text is additionally masked.
If you opt in to anonymous telemetry inside the app, we additionally collect:
- Usage events (via PostHog): anonymous feature usage counts (e.g. app launched, video processed, settings changed). No file names, video content, or transcript text is ever included.
- Crash reports (via Sentry): error messages and stack traces when the app crashes or encounters an unexpected error. These reports contain no personal data and no file contents — only technical details about what went wrong.
App telemetry is strictly opt-in. You can enable or disable it at any time in Settings → Privacy. We do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, or any account information (no sign-up required to use BCut)
- Video files, audio, transcripts, or any content you process
3. How Your Video Data is Processed
All video processing — including audio extraction, local AI transcription, silence detection, and FCPXML export — happens entirely on your machine. Your video files, audio, and transcripts are never transmitted to BCut servers or any third party.
4. Cookies & Tracking
The BCut website uses Vercel Insights and PostHog for analytics. Vercel Insights does not use cookies. PostHog uses a first-party cookie to associate events within a single session; it does not track you across other websites. No advertising or third-party tracking scripts are present on this site.
5. Third-Party Services
The BCut website and purchase flow interact with the following third parties:
- Vercel — website hosting and anonymous analytics. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — event analytics and session replay for the BCut website, and opt-in usage analytics in the app. Session recordings mask all inputs and license key text. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry — opt-in crash reporting for the BCut app. If you enable telemetry, error messages and stack traces from crashes are sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs. No personal data or file contents are included. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- Polar — payment processing for BCut Pro purchases. When you complete a purchase, you interact directly with Polar's checkout. See Polar's Privacy Policy for how they handle payment and billing data.
BCut does not receive or store your payment card details.
6. Data Retention
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing to retain or delete. Aggregated, anonymous website analytics are retained by Vercel per their own policy.
7. Children's Privacy
BCut is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@bcut.app.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of BCut after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
