Common Issues
BCut supports most common video formats (MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM). If your video fails to load:
- Make sure the file isn't currently open or being written by another app.
- Try re-exporting the file from your recording software if it may be corrupted.
- Very long files (>2 hours) may take longer to prepare — give it a moment.
Transcription accuracy depends on audio quality and the selected language.
- Make sure the correct language is selected before processing.
- Recordings with background noise, music, or low volume will produce less accurate results.
- Using a higher-quality AI model (larger size) improves accuracy, especially for non-English content.
- Providing a short prompt with relevant names or terms can also help.
BCut runs AI transcription locally on your Mac, which is CPU/GPU-intensive for long videos.
- Longer videos and larger AI models take more time — this is expected.
- If the progress bar is moving, even slowly, the app is working normally.
- Close other heavy applications to free up resources while processing.
- If the app is truly unresponsive (no progress for more than 10 minutes on a short clip), force-quit and try again.
If BCut crashes on launch or while processing:
- Make sure you're running macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later.
- Try re-downloading the latest version from bcut.app.
- If the crash happens consistently with a specific video file, please send us that file so we can reproduce the issue.
- Check Console.app (Applications → Utilities) for crash logs mentioning "BCut" — attaching these to your support email helps us fix the issue faster.
Models are downloaded directly to your Mac and can be several gigabytes in size.
- Check your internet connection and make sure you have enough free disk space.
- If the download stalls, click Cancel and try again — downloads resume from scratch.
- If downloads consistently fail, a firewall or VPN may be blocking the connection. Try disabling it temporarily.
How to Report a Bug
If none of the above helps, please email us. Including the following information lets us reproduce and fix the issue as quickly as possible.
- 1 BCut version — found in the menu bar under BCut → About BCut.
- 2 macOS version — found in → About This Mac.
- 3 Video file details — format (e.g. MP4, MOV), approximate duration, and how it was recorded.
- 4 Steps to reproduce — what exactly you did before the problem occurred, step by step.
- 5 Screenshot or screen recording — a visual of what you're seeing goes a long way.
- 6 Error message — copy the exact text of any error dialog or notification shown by BCut.
